Trezor.io/Start® — Starting Up Your Device

A clear, privacy-first setup walkthrough and quick sign-up to register your device (optional).

Welcome — Why this page?

This page is crafted to help you start your Trezor device securely. It contains an overview of what to expect, step-by-step setup instructions, and a simple sign-up form if you want to create an account to track device registration and firmware updates. Signing up is optional — you can always use your device independently and keep full control of your keys.

Before you start — checklist

Prepare these items to make the process smooth and secure:

  1. Unbox your Trezor device and verify tamper-evidence packaging.
  2. Have a computer or phone with an up-to-date browser and a USB (or compatible) connection ready.
  3. Keep a pen and a secure place for your recovery seed — never store it digitally or share it online.
  4. Ensure your internet connection is stable for checking firmware and software downloads.

Step-by-step setup (overview)

The following is a high-level description of the typical flow. Follow the official device prompts during setup.

  1. Connect — plug in your Trezor device and follow the screen instructions.
  2. Install Trezor Bridge / Connect App — if required, install the official companion application or use the web interface to connect to the device.
  3. Create PIN — set a secure PIN on the device. Memorize it; do not store it in plaintext.
  4. Generate Recovery Seed — write down the recovery words on the provided card. Keep them offline and secure.
  5. Confirm and Test — verify the seed and test signing a small transaction once you understand the flow.

Privacy & security notes

A hardware wallet like Trezor is designed so your private keys never leave the device. Follow these practices:

  • Never share your recovery seed or PIN with anyone.
  • Only download official firmware and software from trusted sources.
  • If a website or email asks for your recovery phrase — it is a scam. Ignore and report it.

Optional: Create an account (sign-up)

Creating an account is optional and simply allows you to register a device identifier with your email, receive firmware notices, and store non-sensitive preferences. We do not ask for recovery seeds or intimate wallet data.

Note: If you prefer not to create an account, you can skip this step and still use your device fully. Registration simply enables added conveniences like notifications about firmware and optional device lock features.

FAQ

No. Sign-up is optional and for convenience only.
Is my recovery seed collected during sign-up?
No. The recovery seed must remain offline; we will not request it via sign-up or email.
Can I recover my device if I lose my email or password?
Account password resets are email-based. Device recovery itself relies on your recovery seed alone.
